Congratulations! You have taken the first step towards making a difference in your community. Whether you are an individual, business or organization we can help you find the volunteer resources you need! Volunteers are needed every day in our community and you can help. There’s no one cause for the issues we face – and no single solution. But, when we LIVE UNITED, we can make a real difference.
Volunteer with United Way of Passaic County!
The United Way of Passaic County operates the Financial Empowerment Zone or FEZ. FEZ started in 2011, and strives to lift low-income individuals and families in Passaic County out of poverty by helping them to increase their income. Through FEZ clients are able to access: free income tax preparation, free help with FAFSA applications for college financing, free credit counseling, free benefits screening, information and referrals as well as financial literacy workshops.
Become a Tax Volunteer!
Interact with clients by filing tax returns. All you need is basic math and computer skills. UWPC provides training, either classroom or online, and you can sign up to volunteer for evening, daytime or Saturday shifts for the tax season from January through April. We try to get back as much money as possible for each filer. Inform taxpayers about special tax credits that they may qualify for such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Education Tax Credits while helping to save the high fees for commercial tax preparer. Many of our volunteers come back year after year and feel this is a most rewarding and challenging experience (in a good way!). Also available as an intern opportunity for college students. Please contact FEZ Director Caitlin George at (973) 279-8900 Ext 214 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Become a volunteer greeter!
This is the first person that the client meets when they come to the tax site. The greeter helps the clients complete the intake forms, answers questions, often translates, makes appointments and educates about the other free services offered by FEZ. All greeters must pass an IRS ethics test and sign up to volunteer on either evening, daytime, or Saturday shifts for the tax season from January through April. Please contact FEZ Director Caitlin George at (973) 279-8900 Ext 214 or email@example.com.
Become a Financial Aid U Volunteer:
Provide one-on-one service to parents and students serving as a guide through the FAFSA application for college financing. This is a great volunteer opportunity for a recent college graduate or someone who wants to mentor first generation students applying to college. You can choose to volunteer during the school day in area high schools or at our tax site. We provide the training. Get students excited about going to college while helping them make good decisions on college financing. Please contact Paula Smalling at (973) 279-8900 Ext 204 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
PLEDGE TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER TUTOR!
