Community Impact: Health
Access to quality health care keeps children on track in school and keeps adults productive at work.
In Passaic County:
• 18% of pre-school age children who live in poverty are obese.
• The cost of food increased 5% in the past year, making nutritious food even more difficult for poor families to obtain.
• 52% of adults who live in poverty ($21,000 for a family of 4) lack health insurance.
United Way of Passaic County’s goal is to increase the number of youth
and adults who are healthy and avoiding “risky” behavior. In
particular, United Way is focused on access to healthcare as a way to
stay healthy; and on promoting healthy lifestyles in children and teens.
