Community Impact: Income


 

Families cannot achieve financial stability unless they have enough income to pay for today’s necessities and save for the future. Prolonged poverty leads health concerns, to disruptions in housing, and family problems.

 
In Passaic County:

    •    The unemployment rate in 2009 in our county is 11% (as of July, 2009),

    •    23% of children live in poverty,

    •    3,596 homes are in foreclosure (as of July, 2009),

    •    And more than 2,000 lower income families did not claim their federal Earned Income Tax Credit, forfeiting approximately $2,000 in household income
