United Way of Passaic County to Honor Irene Sterling at 2015 Annual Celebration

United Way of Passaic County envisions a community where every child is ready to succeed in school and is committed to creating lasting change. Each year, we present the Community Cornerstone Award to a professional who has dedicated her career to making real change in our community. This year, we honor an amazing woman who has done just that over the last 30 years.

Irene Sterling launched the Paterson Education Fund (PEF) when her daughter entered the public school system as a first-grader. Their mission: to stimulate community action for change so that Paterson Public Schools ensure that all Paterson children achieve high standards. PEF has grown into a watchdog group with a staff of four and a budget of roughly $500,000. Irene retired last year, but continues to volunteer and advocate for children.

Join us on June 17, from noon to 2pm, to celebrate the difference Irene and all of our volunteers and donors made in the lives of children throughout our community. The event will be held at Hamilton & Ward Steakhouse in Paterson. This annual event is the signature fundraising event for the United Way of Passaic County.
